ITS TECHNOLOGY Introduces ITS technology

The ITS is composed of 7 sub-development areas, 14 user services,
and 61 detailed services.

Traffic management optimization

1. Traffic flow management service

Controls the traffic flow of all vehicles traveling on city roads (major connecting roads, urban expressways) and local roads (freeways, National roads, etc.), and provides real-time information about traffic conditions.

  • Real-time traffic control
  • Link with railroad crossing
    signals
  • Provision of traffic control
    information
  • Metropolitan traffic flow
    control
  • Expressway traffic flow
    control
2. Sudden situation management service

Recognizes, responds, and quickly handles all sudden situations on the road such as traffic accidents, vehicle breakdowns, and abnormal congestion.

  • Detection of sudden
    situations
  • Response to sudden
    situations
  • Support for operation
    management of emergency
    vehicles
3. Automatic traffic tracking service

Uses autonomous surveillance cameras and AVI (Automatic Vehicle Identification) to automatically track various vehicles in traffic violations such as speeding, restricted bus lane violations, and traffic signal violations.

  • Real-time traffic control
  • Tracking of lane violation
    vehicles
  • Tracking of overloaded
    vehicles
  • Tracking of vehicles in
    violation of restricted bus lane
  • Tracking of vehicles in
    violation of traffic signal

Promoting traffic information distribution

1. Traffic information management and provision service

This service encompasses all activities performed at the traffic information center in each zone, with a focus on large cities (the spatial unit of the ITS). That is, the regional traffic information center collects information internally as a center for providing traffic information, and performs the information link function to integrate and manage information collected from all public institutions.

  • Real-time traffic control
  • Link with railroad crossing
    signals
  • Real-time traffic control

Advancing traveler information

1. Additional information management and provision services

The private information provider obtains various basic information from the regional traffic information center. The service provider processes the basic information again and adds a variety of other information, then providing it to the user (traveler) as a paid service.

  • Provision of traveler
    information
  • Driving information
  • Bicycle route guide
  • Travel control before
    departure
  • Provision of parking
    information
  • Route guidance for the
    disabled
  • Provision of traffic
    information while driving
  • Link with pedestrian route
  • Provision of other additional
    information

Promoting public transportation

1. Public transportation information provision service

The location information of the public transportation vehicle is checked using the vehicle location check equipment (beacon) installed on the roadside or by satellite (GPS). This information is received and analyzed by the public transportation information center or transportation company and provided to the moving public transportation vehicle with information on traffic conditions and operations.

  • Providing intra-city bus
    information
  • Providing express bus
    information
  • Providing intercity bus
    information
2. Public transportation information management service

The transportation company collects the vehicle operation information (vehicle location, number of passengers, accident information, vehicle stop status, etc.) in real time, using satellite and wireless communication network technology, and analyzes the operation situation.

  • Downtown city bus service
    management
  • Seat reservation management
  • Public transportation facility
    management
  • Express bus service
    management
  • Transfer fare management
  • Intercity bus service
    management
  • Public transportation safety
    management

Efficient cargo transportation

1. Logistics information management service

Cargo vehicle information will be collected from satellites, onboard units in the vehicle, and wired/wireless communication devices. The information will then be saved in the database at the center, analyzed, and processed as useful information to be provided to cargo vehicle drivers.

  • Cargo tracking
    management
  • Cargo operation
    management
  • Cargo vehicle safety
    management support
  • Freight vehicle route
    guidance
2. Dangerous goods vehicle management service

Enables the real-time tracing and management of vehicles carrying dangerous cargo and goods using the onboard terminal unit, in-car safety detection device, satellite, and wired/wireless communication.

  • Dangerous goods accident
    processing
    service
  • Dangerous goods
    management
  • Dangerous goods vehicle
    route
    guidance and
    management
3. Electronic cargo administrative service

This service includes the electronic cargo customs clearance and electronic cargo administrative service. Electronic cargo customs clearance ensures efficient cargo vehicle operation by allowing the authorized vehicle to pass customs clearance automatically without delay. Electronic cargo administrative services include the electronic data interchange (EDI) service that exchanges the logistics-related civil service document and documents exchanged among parties as an electronic document, and a logistics information provision service that creates a database by analyzing and processing various logistics-related information at home and abroad, providing the necessary information by identifying and developing the information provider.

  • Electronic cargo clearance
  • Electronic cargo
    administration

Vehicle and road advancement

1. Safe operation support

This service supports safe operation by controlling dangerous situations on the road, using the roadside unit and automatic control technology of the vehicle itself. That is, secondary accidents are prevented by automatic control and warning of imminent vehicle collision from the front, rear, and side, and collision at the intersection.

  • Automatic warning of
    accident
    threat
  • Railroad crossing safety
    management
  • Safety support for the
    disabled
  • Front/back vehicle collision
    prevention
  • Safety management of
    reduced speed sections
  • Driver visibility enhancement
  • Vehicle side collision
    prevention
  • Automatic diagnosis of vehicle
    safety
  • Dangerous driving prevention
  • Intersection collision
    prevention
  • Pedestrian safety support
2. Automatic safety support

Vehicles will be developed from the partial self-driving phase to the complete self-driving phase thanks to the automation of road systems and vehicles, which will improve safety by controlling lane departure and vehicle clearance automatically and reducing traffic accidents.

  • Vehicle spacing control
  • Self-driving with automatic
    steering
  • Grouped driving
